Arsenal On Alert As Midfield Ace Set To Quit Fiorentina

Arsenal has been put on red alert after summer target Riccardo Montolivo indicated he could leave Fiorentina in January.

Arsene Wenger has been strongly linked with a move for the Italian international, who has been in outstanding form in Serie A over the past year.

Montolivo is out of contract next summer and has been attracting interest from a number of top European clubs, including AC Milan.

But reports in Italy suggest Arsenal is leading the chase to sign him and he has now asked Fiorentina for more time to consider his long-term future.

Montolivo has already turned down one offer of a new deal from Fiorentina as he is reported to want a release clause which allows him to join a top European club.

If the two parties fail to reach an agreement, Montolivo will be allowed to leave when the transfer window re-opens in January as the Italian club does not want to see him walk away as a free agent at the end of the season.
