Barcelona has seemingly won the race for Alexis Sanchez - a target for Manchester United - after the Catalan giants confirmed they hoped a deal would be concluded soon.
"We are near the end, we have worked with enough patience," said Barca's sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.
"The player's participation was also important, sometimes delaying the end, but we want Alexis to be here soon."
According to talkSPORT, Barca is set to tie up a deal in the region of £27 million for the Udinese winger, who has been heavily linked with Manchester City, as well as United.
Sir Alex Ferguson has previously been ousted as a fan of the Chilean, with reports suggesting the United boss had been interested in bringing the 22-year-old to Old Trafford.
Whether or not United ever made a formal approach for Sanchez remains to be seen but Barca will no doubt regard triumphing in the chase for the youngster as a moral victory.
Should his transfer to the Nou Camp be completed in the coming days, Sanchez could potentially make his debut against United in Washington DC.
United are due to face Barca on July 30 during their pre-season tour of the USA, in what is being hyped as a repeat of May's Champions League final.
